New NPSA Signal item on treating spinal cord compression

The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) has issued a new Signal on spinal cord compression.

Signal Title: Delay in diagnosis and treatment of spinal cord compression
Signal Reference Number: 1293

Issue date: 29 October 2010

This Signal concerns the harm associated with failure to rapidly diagnose and treat spinal cord compression and poor handling of patients where it is suspected or diagnosed. Health professionals are requested to disseminate these findings and where appropriate, to review or revise local policies and procedural guidelines in light of this alert to further enhance patient safety.
