3rd Sep 2015

Programme for April 2015 to March 2016

SIA is once again holding a series of specialist Study Days under the title 'Managing Spinal Cord Injury' aimed at healthcare professionals in 2015/16. These courses, which are FREE to NHS staff and many other delegates (please contact us for more details on charges for non-NHS delegates) are a must for professionals working in District General Hospitals and rehabilitation centres who treat spinal cord injured patients.  We are pleased to confirm that our Study Days are CPD accredited.

We are currently booking venues and confirming dates for these events but are happy to take tentative bookings or enquiries now.

 The Non-Trauma Perspective

*NEW* for this training year, this Study Day will cover subjects including the physical impact of non-traumatic injuries, the importance of timely diagnosis and the care pathway. We are delighted to be working with the Cauda Equina Syndrome UK Charity and the Transverse Myelitis Society on this day, and there will be representatiives from both charities speaking on the day.

Courses currently scheduled are as follows:

  • 3 September 2015 - Resource for London, Islington, N. London
  • 5 November 2015- Park Inn by Radisson Hotel, Manchester

Bladder and Bowel Management

The Bladder and Bowel Management Study Day provides insight into how the neurogenic bowel and bladder function following SCI, plus an opportunity to see the range of catheters, bags and ancillary equipment available to enable good management. The day also includes demonstrations on how the various irrigation systems work and the nuances needed for manual evacuation and digital stimulation.

Dates TBC as soon as they are available

 The Professional Perspective

Launched last year, subjects for this new Study Day have been identified from delegate feedback from other events, and will highlight important issues faced by SCI people. They include pain management, Autonomic Dysreflexia, spasticity, respiratory care and psychological issues.

  • 6 October 2015 - Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel, Cardiff
  • 4 February 2016- Ramada Loughborough Hotel, Loughborough (rescheduled from 8 July)
